Smithton, MO | September 8, 2025 – Mid-States Specialty Eggs shares construction for a new state-of-the-art egg grading and processing facility starting in Sedalia, MO. This new facility represents a significant commitment to the local farming community and food industry in Sedalia-Pettis County and the state of Missouri.
“This expansion is an investment in our community and its future as we expand our operations and establish this new processing facility just down the road from our company’s headquarters,” shares Marion Hostetler, President and Co-Founder of Mid-States Specialty Eggs. “This location in Missouri is a great opportunity because of the growing interest from our farmer base, the supportive communities, and the new product requests from our customers. We are excited to meet the growing demand from our customers with liquid egg products, which this Sedalia plant will be the first to offer.”
“As agriculture remains the #1 industry in Missouri, Mid-States Specialty Eggs plays a vital role—not just locally and regionally, but statewide—in building an agricultural ecosystem that creates jobs and strengthens our economic landscape,” said Jessica Craig, Executive Director of Economic Development Sedalia – Pettis County.
“Sedalia and Pettis County have long been known for our strong blue-collar workforce and commitment to hard work and innovation,” said Rusty Kahrs, Board President of Economic Development Sedalia-Pettis County. “We are proud to have this expansion here in Missouri as one of only five Mid-States Specialty Eggs operations nationwide. The quality jobs and economic opportunities this project brings will make a lasting impact, and we thank Mid-States Specialty Eggs for choosing Sedalia-Pettis County as the place to grow.”
“As Missouri’s Director of Agriculture, I thank Mid-States Specialty Eggs for recognizing the value in Missouri agriculture and our workforce,” said Director Chris Chinn. “Agriculture is our state’s top economic driver and expansions like this one continue to strengthen the agriculture economy in Pettis County and the surrounding area. Opportunities like this from Mid-States Specialty Eggs help bring the next generation home to our farms and rural communities.”
When the new plant is at full capacity, this expansion will double the employment in production. This new Mid-States Specialty Eggs processing facility will cover approximately 250,000 square feet, almost six acres, and offer egg grading, egg breaking, and further processing for whole eggs, egg whites, and egg yolks for liquid, frozen, and dried products with customizable specifications to customer needs.
This new plant will be the fifth processing operation for Mid-States Specialty Eggs, which already has facilities in Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin. The new plant is expected to be operational in 2026 and will feature innovative equipment and processing technologies. Mid-States Specialty Eggs is dedicated to sustainable and responsible practices, ensuring the highest standards of food safety and animal welfare in the products they produce.
