Since 1989, Evergy’s volunteer, employee-driven Green Team has completed thousands of meaningful and significant projects restoring hundreds of acres of wetlands and thousands of acres of prairie. From the creation of wildlife and pollinator habitats to the development of wetlands, waterway enhancements and planting native trees, the, Green Team is dedicated to making a positive community impact Since 1989 the Green Team has planted over 35,000 trees.
Trees are a critical component to our ecosystem. They help clean our air, create shade which helps lower cooling costs, and provide habitats for native wildlife.
In recent years, Evergy’s Green Team and other volunteers made a huge impact by increasing the tree population in both Kansas and Missouri by distributing and planting thousands of trees, including more than 1,000 trees in Kansas City’s historic Independence Corridor. These improvements will help to decrease the urban heat index for years to come.
In support of this shared mission, a total of 83 trees were planted in just one hour, made possible through the leadership of Evergy employee Caleb Hastings and the dedication of Green Team volunteers. Half of the trees were provided through the Evergy Green Team Grant to EDSPC, with the remaining trees sourced locally through Marcum’s Hauling and Landscaping.
We are thankful for the partnership with Evergy, for the companies who call the Thompson Meadows Industrial Park home, and supportive board members who have the future of the park in mind. This is a big step forward in the advancement and growth and retainment, of existing industrial space; as well as recruitment and marketing for new business.
