Sedalia, Missouri, May 10, 2021 – Economic Development Sedalia-Pettis County (EDSPC) will celebrate National Economic Development Week May 9-12 by highlighting significant partners, success stories and the organization’s overall impact on the region’s economy.
National Economic Development Week was created in 2016 to increase awareness of local programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities and increase the quality of life in communities. The week is coordinated by the International Economic Development Council, the largest professional membership organization for economic development.
Jessica Craig, EDSPC executive director, said the recognition week is designed to celebrate the contributions of positive economic development and provide an opportunity for economic developers to explain the role of their profession in the local community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the EDSPC was unable to celebrate last year.
“We are fortunate to have amazing relationships with industry in the area as well as with our city and county partners,” Craig said. “We are excited that we can celebrate our achievements this year and we are looking forward to sharing exciting news and success stories with the community throughout the week.”
In the last four years EDSPC has worked with companies to expand their facilities to build new locations resulting in 1,387 new jobs, 1,175 retained jobs and new capital investment of $399 million. Over the past 15 years, EDSPC has supported over 67 companies resulting in the creation of 3,300 jobs and capital investment of $715 million.
“EDSPC’s focus is retaining, expanding and recruiting manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, logistics, technology and energy sectors,” Craig said. “The commitment to more than 70 manufacturing and industrial-related businesses in Sedalia and Pettis County has never wavered. Existing manufacturers and new companies continue to choose to re-invest and grow within Sedalia and Pettis County, and we are positioned to continue positive growth.”
